The
folks over at Pullman-Standard had a bright idea!!! Passengers in
double bedrooms pay a higher fare than roomette passengers, so why
don't we put the bedrooms in the middle of the car so that those
passengers get the smoothest ride? And thus the Rapido Trains Inc. 10-5 Sleeper
was born, thanks to the bright ideas at Pullman! Bedroom seats have
see-through armrests, and roomettes have curtains for privacy. Each
corridor window has its own handrail installed at the correct
height.
The 10-5 Sleeper
is Pullman plan number 4186, a CN and Erie / Erie-Lackawanna prototype.
10-5 sleepers were ubiquitous throughout North America (almost as much
as the 10-6), and our car is painted in a variety of paint schemes. The
10-5 Sleeper is available with partial skirting or with fixed
steps, as appropriate. Handy-dandy uncoupling levers and grab irons are
installed at the factory for the benefit of your maintenance crews.
For Erie modellers, we are also making our Lightweight Coach available in five different Erie numbers.
All of our Super Continental Line passenger cars feature battery-powered interior LED lighting which is turned on and off by our Rapido Lighter,
essentially a magnet on a stick. Wave the Lighter over the AC hatch on
the roof, and the lights turn on. Wave it again, and the lights turn
off. No more coach yards filled with lighted cars draining your power
pack, and no more flicker! Each car comes with a Rapido Lighter and two
batteries.
