HO Bombardier LRC (Light, Rapid, Comfortable) Locomotive
MSRP $329.95-DCC & Sound • $179.95-DC
ARRIVING 2012
The LRC looked and sounded sharp at the head-end of a set of matching LRC coaches and LRC club cars. It could also be found heading up a wide variety of equipment, from VIA and ONR conventional steam-heated passenger cars to Amtrak's Amfleet and Horizon cars.
The VIA LRC locomotive powered VIA trains in the Corridor and the joint VIA-ONR 'Northland' between Toronto and Kapuskasing, Ontario. It also powered the International using Amtrak and VIA equipment between Toronto and Chicago. The Amtrak LRC locomotive was used in the early 1980s on demonstration runs in the Northeast Corridor and in the Midwest. The last LRC unit was retired in 2001. Click on the paint schemes at left to see product and locomotive numbers.
The LRC locomotive sounded unlike any other locomotive ever built. To that end, we are working closely with Exporail, Canada's national railway museum. LRC locomotive 6921 is on display at Exporail, but it has a broken pump. Rapido Trains Inc. and Exporail are jointly covering the cost to repair 6921 and we will be firing her up to record accurate engine sounds for the sound-equipped model. To visit Exporail, click here.
